Tata Motors unveiled its electric SUV concept – Curvv – on Wednesday, which is expected to hit the market within the next two years.

“This concept will introduce India to a unique, edgy and sporty coupe body style that has historically only been prevalent in the high-end luxury segment,” the company said.

In its production-ready version, the concept will initially come to market as an expansion of the company’s electric vehicle (EV) portfolio, which will later be followed by its internal combustion engine (ICE) counterpart.

Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd., said: “We are confident that this coupe concept will redefine mainstream SUV design.”

“Furthermore, with the Curvv concept, we are now stepping into the 2nd generation EV architecture, which will further improve the acceptance of EVs in India by overcoming the current obstacles,” he said.

“With this new architecture, we will strengthen the key pillars of range, performance and technology while maintaining safety and reliability as hygiene offerings,” added Mr. Chandra.

In addition, the Generation 2 EV architecture will be advanced, flexible and capable of offering multiple powertrain options. The Concept Curvv, in its production version, will spawn a new generation of vehicles in India, the company said.

Commenting on the company’s performance, Mr. Chandra said, “Our ongoing business transformation is evolving. From record sales to increasing our market share, the past fiscal year has been nothing but magical for us.”

“Not only have we emerged as the #1 SUV player in our portfolio with our range of products, we have also continued to drive our growth in the EV space with a 353% increase in our highest annual EV sales over FY21,” he added.
