Two-time IPL champion Shane Watson believes that a big prize comes with a lot of expectations and that Tim David will be under pressure playing for the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Remarkably, on the second day of the mega auction, Tim David was bought by Indians from Mumbai for Rs 8.25 billion. David was part of Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2021.

“Certainly with the high price tag comes a lot of expectations and pressure from your franchise. It’s only when you get into playtime that you really know how to absorb that pressure. I’ve seen a number of players who have had that expectation and they’ve walked away from it – Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer are those guys,” Watson said on the show’s ICC Review.

David has represented Singapore in international cricket in 14 T20Is and amassed 558 runs with an average of 46.5 and batting average of 158.52 since his debut against Qatar in July 2019.

“But there are a number of guys, you can see the pressure has stifled their performance. Singapore’s Tim David is playing in the BBL, the first time he’s had the opportunity to play in the IPL and so he’s going for Mumbai Indians are playing there will be pressure. It offers different complexities and the IPL is exciting,” he added.

The Mumbai Indians also snapped up the English pacemaker Jofra Archer in the mega auction. At the IPL 2022 Mega Auction, Ishan Kishan, Deepak Chahar and Shreyas Iyer were among the top picks of the event.
