Manipur Chief Minister Biren Singh said he would ask Prime Minister Narendra Modi to repeal the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in the state if the BJP comes to power here.

Manipur Chief Minister Biren Singh said he would ask Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Interior Minister Amit Shah to repeal the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) takes power in Manipur after winning this year’s elections forms.

“We will ask PM Modi and the Home Secretary to repeal the AFSPA except in some border districts of Manipur after the BJP forms the government here,” Biren Singh said while the results of the 2022 general election are due to be announced in Manipur on Thursday.

The 2022 general elections in Manipur were held in two phases. The counting of the votes started at 8 a.m. on Thursday, and the results will be announced by the evening.

Biren Singh said: “The game was hard fought and played very well. It’s PM Modi’s ‘Sabke Bikash’ mantra that won.”

Biren Singh said he will go to the Manipur governor once the elections and counting are over. “It would take time to go to the governor. Let the election be over,” he said.

According to the recording on the Electoral Commission website around 2:45 p.m., the BJP has won three seats in Manipur and leads by 17 seats. Meanwhile, Congress has won two seats so far and Janata Dal (United) has managed to bag three seats.
