Volkswagen begins production of the Virtus

Volkswagen Passenger Cars India has announced the start of production of the Virtus premium mid-size sedan in India. The car will be manufactured at the Chakan Plant in Pune. Piyush Arora, Managing Director, Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Pvt. ltd said: “With the start of production of the new Virtus at our Chakan plant in Pune, we have successfully completed our commitment to launch two new products under the India 2.0 project based on the MQB A0 IN platform for the market under the Volkswagen brand “The development of the vehicle line is a joint effort by our global and Indian teams who have worked diligently to maintain the brand’s global manufacturing standards while maintaining up to a 95% localization level,” he said. “The collaboration has positively resulted in the distinctive, exciting and German engineered New Virtus, which will redefine the premium mid-size sedan segment in India,” he added. Powered by TSI technology, Virtus will be available as a 1.5-litre TSI EVO engine with Active Cylinder Management Technology (ACT) and as a 1.0-litre TSI engine, both with idle start/stop are equipped.
