Entertainment major Viacom18 announced on Friday the launch of Sports18, the network’s dedicated sports broadcast channel.
Available in SD and HD, the pay TV channel offers fans the best sports content in India.
Sports18 will be the new home of the world’s highest quality sports facilities including the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, NBA, LaLiga, Ligue 1, Serie A, Abu Dhabi T10 and top ATP and BWF events.
In addition to top picks from the world of football, basketball, tennis, cricket and badminton, the channel gives fans access to top programs with international sports news, magazines and highlights.
“We are excited to launch a dedicated sports channel for a demographic and geographic audience,” Viacom18 Sports CEO Anil Jayaraj said in a statement.
“Sports18 will strive to become India’s most desirable broadcasting network by providing fans with easy access to a comprehensive range of international and premium sports content.”
According to sources, the network made the foray into esports, specifically targeting the moneyed Indian Premier League.
“Viacom18 bought the media rights offering document from IPL and could be one of the strong competitors in the TV or digital space,” an IPL insider told PTI.
