On Wednesday, the rupee was down 4 paise to close at 76.19 against the US dollar

The rupee was down 6 paises against the US dollar on April 18 to close at 76.25 (prelim) on the back of overseas strength in the greenback and higher crude oil prices.

In the interbank FX market, the rupee opened lower at 76.41 against the US currency and ended up trading at 76.25 for the day, down 6 paise from its previous close.

During the trading session, the rupee posted a daily high of 76.20 and a low of 76.43.

On Wednesday, the rupee was down 4 paise to close at 76.19 against the US dollar.

The forex market was down on Thursday for Mahavir Jayanti and Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti and closed on Friday for Good Friday.

Meanwhile, the Dollar Index, which gauges the dollar’s strength against a basket of six currencies, traded 0.20% higher to 100.70.

Global oil benchmark Brent crude futures fell 0.18% to $111.50 a barrel.

The 30-stock BSE Sensex closed 1,172.19 points, or 2.01%, lower at 57,166.74, while the broader NSE Nifty fell 302.00 points, or 1.73%, to 17,173.65.

Foreign institutional investors remained net sellers in the capital market on Wednesday, selling 2,061.04 crore of shares, according to stock market data.
