“Their total export is $25 billion and there is still more potential globally, especially post-COVID-19.”

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said on Monday India must increase the export share of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) to fulfill Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream.

“MSMEs are a major contributor to the country’s growth,” said Mr. Gadkari. “In India’s overall GDP growth, 30% is attributable to MSMEs. [About] 40% of our exports come from the MSME segment, which has created 11 million jobs and made us self-sufficient,” said Mr Gadkari.

He was speaking at Expo 2022 exhibition organized by All India Gem & Jewelery Domestic Council (GJC) in Mumbai.

“If we want to fulfill our PM’s dream, we need to increase MSME exports to over 50%. [from the current share of 40%] and the gemstone and jewelry industry plays an important role in that,” he said.

“Their total export is $25 billion and there is more potential globally, especially after COVID-19,” he added.

“In the coming days, India will do good business domestically, but I wish you success in the international market as well,” he told the jewelry community.

On that occasion, Ashish Pethe, Chairman of the All India Gem and Jewelery Domestic Council (GJC) said: “We have been trying to protect, advance and promote for 17 to 18 years after our establishment.”

“This fair is to promote the industry where we can best share our ideas,” he added.
