The government on Friday appointed Suman K Bery as vice chairman of NITI Aayog following the resignation of Rajiv Kumar. Mr. Bery will take over the management from May 1, 2022.

The Cabinet Appointments Committee has “accepted the resignation of Rajiv Kumar and dismissed him from the post of Deputy Chairman, NITI Aayog, effective April 30, 2022,” according to an official order.

Mr Kumar took over as vice-chair of the Aayog in August 2017 after then-vice-chair Arvind Panagariya left the government think-tank to return to academia. The reason for Mr Kumar’s resignation could not be determined.

Mr. Bery was previously Chief Executive of the National Council of Applied Economic Research, New Delhi. He has also served on the Economic Advisory Council, the Statistical Commission and the Technical Advisory Committee on Monetary Policy of the Reserve Bank of India.
