After gaining over 200 points in early trade, Sensex turned volatile and traded at 57,184.21 in early trades

Stock benchmarks Sensex and Nifty got choppy on Wednesday, tracking weakness in index heavyweights Reliance Industries, TCS and HDFC Bank amid mixed trends in global markets.

After gaining over 200 points in early trade, the 30-period BSE benchmark turned volatile and traded 27.41 points, or 0.05%, lower at 57,184.21 in early trade. The NSE Nifty also slipped 33.45 points, or 0.2%, to 17,069.10.

From the Sensex package were Dr. Reddy’s, Titan, Sun Pharma, Reliance Industries, TCS and HDFC Bank were the prominent losers. On the other hand, winners included PowerGrid, NTPC, Infosys and Wipro.

Elsewhere in Asia, Seoul, Tokyo and Hong Kong were lower.

Stock exchanges in the U.S. edged higher in overnight trading on Tuesday.

On Monday, the BSE benchmark fell 84.88 points, or 0.15%, to 56,975.99 and the Nifty fell 33.45 points, or 0.20%, to close at 17,069.10.

Stock markets were closed for Eid-Ul-Fitr on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, international oil benchmark Brent crude rose 1.08 percent to $106.10 a barrel.

Overseas institutional investors sold £1,853.46 billion worth of shares on Monday, according to stock market data.
