OneWeb, the low-Earth-orbiting satellite company backed by the Bharti Group, and New Space India Ltd., the commercial arm of India’s space research organization, announced an agreement on Thursday to help the former complete its satellite launch program.

The first launch with New Space India is expected in 2022 from Satish Dhawan Space Center (SDSC) SHAR in Sriharikota. The launches will expand OneWeb’s total in-orbit constellation of 428 satellites, accounting for 66% of the total planned fleet, the company said in a statement.

“This latest agreement on launch plans adds significant momentum to the development of the OneWeb network as we work across the space industry toward our common goal of connecting communities worldwide,” said Sunil Bharti Mittal, Executive Chairman of OneWeb.

OneWeb also recently announced an agreement with SpaceX to allow the company to resume satellite launches.
