Natural farming is the need of the hour as crop production costs have risen due to the use of chemicals and fertilizers, NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant said on Monday.

Speaking at the National Workshop on Innovative Agriculture organized by NITI Aayog, Mr. Kant further said that India is now an exporter of wheat and rice.

“Natural farming is the need of the hour and it is important that we find scientific ways through which we can ensure that farmers can benefit directly and thereby increase their income,” he said.

“Production costs of grains and vegetables increased due to overuse of chemicals and fertilizers,” Kant added. Natural farming is a chemical-free cultivation method. It is considered an agroecology-based diversified farming system that integrates crops, trees, and livestock with functional biodiversity.

Also, NITI Aayog Member (Agriculture) Ramesh Chand said at the event that there are many natural farming methods that can be adopted, such as: B. organic farming, diversification and agroecological farming.

“Through our shared experiences, it’s crucial to understand the pros and cons of each method,” he added.
