HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Australian women beat Pakistan in all divisions to record a 7-wicket win
  • Pakistan lost the game but captain Bismah Maroof’s cradle celebration went viral
  • Australia have now recorded back-to-back wins against England and Pakistan

The Australian women put on a clinical performance, outperforming the Pakistani women in all departments to claim a comfortable seven-wicket victory in Game 6 of the 2022 ICC Women’s World Championship at Mount Maunganui’s Bay Oval and move to pole- to advance position in the points table. Australia limited Pakistan to 190 for 6 and then comfortably shot down the target, sealing a seven-wicket win over 15.2-over Pakistan on Tuesday.

Australia are the hot favorites at the mega-event, having won the tournament a record six times. The 2013 winners have now recorded back-to-back victories against holders England and Pakistan. On the other hand, the Pakistani women will need to improve in all departments to move out of that last position as the Bismah Mahroof-led side suffered crushing defeats to India and Australia.

Pakistan lost the game but captain Bismah Maroof’s cradle celebration has gone viral on social media. Maroof scored half a century and celebrated it with a baby-rocking gesture as she looked at her baby in the dressing room. Maroof became the first Pakistani cricketer to play half a century against Australia at the ODI World Cup on Tuesday. She went undefeated at 78.
