The Treasury Department said on Monday that there are still no concrete proposals to restructure the Goods and Services Tax (GST) rates.
“No feedback has been solicited from states on GST rates for specific items or specific proposals to restructure rates,” the department said in a statement, noting that a group of ministers appointed by the GST Council are proposing a rationalization of tax rates should still be advised on how to proceed.
“States’ views were generally solicited on the GoM’s Terms of References (ToRs) shortly after its inception in September 2021. A report from the group has yet to be submitted to the Council for consideration,” it said.
