India’s largest iron ore producer NMDC reported production of 3.15 million tonnes and sales of 3.12 tonnes in April, both up less than 1% from the same period last year’s output.

Iron ore production in April 2022 was 0.6% higher than a year earlier, while sales were 0.9% higher. The company continues to see growth in its physical output, NMDC said in a press release on Monday.

This was the highest April production in the company’s history. This was against the background that the company produced over 42 tons in 2021-22.

“FY23 has started on the right note for us, reflecting the hard work of the team, aligned with the company’s strategic direction. Our adoption of new technologies and digital initiatives strengthens our supply chain and future-proofs NMDC,” said CMD Sumit Deb.

Having achieved the iron ore production target of 42 tons, “we are confident that NMDC will grow into a 50-ton capacity mining company in the near future,” he said.
