As part of its expansion plan, the Hitech Diagnostics Center is proposing to open 40 new collection centers in Chennai in the current fiscal year, said Chair Ameera Shah.

“We acquired the city-based company in October 2021. Currently we have 43 collection centers in Chennai and this number will increase to 83 by the end of the year,” Ms Shah said.

“Hitech has nine labs in Chennai. The new collection points will be our own and we want to grow organically. We’re not looking for any more acquisitions,” she said.

She shared that the expansion plans involved a total investment of around £10 crore and said the costs would be covered by internal reserves.

Last year, Metropolis Healthcare acquired the city-based Hitech Diagnostic Center for £5.11bn.

Ms Shah also said that in order to strengthen Hitech’s presence in Tamil Nadu, there are plans to increase the number of collection centers from 27 to 77 and the number of laboratories from eight to 23 in two to three years. Hitech currently has a presence in eight cities, and plans to increase that number to 23 cities to strengthen its presence in Tier II and Tier III cities.

Asked about Hitech’s performance, she said it was too early to comment as the company was only acquired last October.

Hitech currently offers 500 types of tests, she said, adding that her vision is to introduce more tests and deliver reports faster.

Speaking about automation, she said the digital-first experience would allow customers to see results over the phone.
