Kerosene prices rose a marginal 0.2% on Saturday – the eighth consecutive rise this year – to an all-time high, reflecting a rise in global energy prices.

The price of jet turbine fuel (ATF) – the fuel that helps planes fly – has risen in the state capital, according to a price announcement from state fuel distributors.

Meanwhile, petrol and diesel prices remained unchanged for the 10th day after rising by a record £10 a liter each.

While kerosene prices are revised on the 1st and 16th of each month, petrol and diesel tariffs are revised daily based on the corresponding tariffs in the international market.

The rise in ATF price is due to its steepest ever increase of 18.3% (₹17,135.63 per kl) on 16 March and a 2% increase (₹2,258.54 per kl) on 1 April.

ATF in Mumbai now costs ₹111,981.99 per kl while it costs ₹117,753.60 in Kolkata and ₹116,933.49 in Chennai.

Fuel prices have been raised in India as energy prices have risen globally due to supply concerns following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the return of demand after the pandemic.

India relies 85% on imports to meet its oil needs.

Kerosene, which accounts for nearly 40% of an airline’s operating costs, has soared to new highs this year.

ATF prices have increased every two weeks since early 2022. In eight increases from January 1st, ATF prices have increased by ₹39,180.42, or nearly 50%.
