Former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli was arrested for drunk driving on Sunday when he rammed a passing car at a Bandra society in Mumbai. He was taken into custody and examined at Bandra Police Station.

Vinod Kambli, 50, was arrested following a complaint from a resident of the said Bandra Society. He was charged under section rw 185 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) Motor Vehicle Act (driving under the influence of alcohol).

According to PTI news agency, Kambli was released on bail later in the day. Kambli is also said to have argued with the complex’s guard and some residents after the incident.

Kambli played 17 Tests and scored 1084 runs including 4 hundreds. He played 104 ODIs for India, scoring 2,477 runs including 2 hundreds. The Mumbai batsman made his India debut in 1991 and played his last match in October 2000.

Kambli, a gifted cricketer who grew up with Sachin Tendulkar and learned the art of the sport, became bogged down by controversy over his behavior. The former cricketer has been active on social media, having announced his willingness to work in the Indian Premier League.

Notably, Kambli became a victim of cyber fraud in December last year. A scammer posed as a private bank executive over the phone and withdrew Rs 1.14 lakh from his account on the pretext of updating his know-your-customer (KYC) details. The incident became public on December 3 after Kambli contacted Bandra Police and filed a complaint.
