Six para-sport athletes were added to the core group of athletes in support of TOPS by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sport at a Mission Olympic Cell meeting, which was attended alongside representatives from members including former players Bhaichung Bhutia, Anju Bobby George , Trupti Murgunde, attended various associations and IOA President Shri. The MOC also approved a request from two-time Olympic Games medalist PV Sindhu to support the travel and accommodation expenses of her fitness coach Srikanth during the German Open, All-England Championships, Swiss Open and Korean Open in March and April.

Sindhu’s own travel and subsistence expenses are funded from the Ministry of Training and Competition (ACTC) annual budget for the Badminton Association of India. Her coach’s travel expenses to these four tournaments were approved by the Target Olympic Podium Scheme.

Similarly, world No. 25 and 2012 Olympic Games bronze medalist Saina Nehwal’s application for financial support for her physiotherapist Ayesha for her travel and stay during the German Open, All-England Championships and Swiss Open was also approved. SAI already provides financial support for Ms. Ayesha’s monthly allowance.

The MOC also approved proposals worth more than Rs. 43.50 lakh from badminton players Ashmita Chaliha, Aditi Bhat and doubles players MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila, Vishnuvardhan Goud and Krishna Prasad, Pullela Gayatri Gopichand and Treesa Jolly, and Shikha Gautam and Ashwini Bhatt so they can attend international events.

Also, proposals from Manika Batra, Archana Kamat, Payas Jain, Yashaswini Ghorphade, Suhana Saini and Diya Chitale worth more than Rs 8.5 lakh were approved along with their air fares. This support has been extended to international competitions.
