Electric bus and light commercial vehicle company, Switch Mobility Ltd., has announced its entry into continental Europe with a new advanced manufacturing facility in Valladolid, Spain.

Chairman Dheeraj Hinduja laid the foundation for the coming unit.

“We have established a presence in the UK, India and now continental Europe. We have an order book of more than 500 electric buses and have covered more than 50 million kilometers with our current electric products. The start of development of our site in Spain is an important milestone in our global growth strategy,” said Andy Palmer, vice chairman and CEO, in a statement.

Construction on the 35 hectare site is scheduled to begin shortly and the first fleet of buses is expected to be produced within 12 months.

The new facility will include two state-of-the-art production lines and will be completely carbon neutral from the start. The company has planned an investment of 100 million euros in the site over the next ten years and is expected to create an estimated 7,000 direct and indirect jobs in the region.

In phase one of the new development, Switch’s new 12-meter bus will be produced for the European market. Phases two and three will add battery assembly and switch zero-carbon light-duty vehicle production capacity beginning in 2024.
