Sri Lanka will host the Asia Cup T20 tournament from August 27 to September 11, the Asian Cricket Council announced on Saturday.

The Asian Cricket Council announced on Saturday that Sri Lanka will host the Asia Cup T20 tournament from August 27 to September 11.

All five of the continent’s Test teams – India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh and hosts Sri Lanka – will take part in the tournament, along with another Asian side to be decided after a qualifying tournament starting August 20.

“The Asia Cup 2022 (T20 format) will be held in Sri Lanka later this year from August 27th to September 11th. The qualifying games for this will be played from August 20, 2022,” the ACC tweeted after its general meeting.

The tournament, which normally alternates between ODI and T20I formats, was last played in 2018 and won by India. The COVID-19 pandemic had forced the postponement of the 2020 edition.

Sri Lanka was supposed to host the 2020 edition but the pandemic initially pushed the event back to 2021 before eventually being pushed back to 2022. Pakistan, originally set to host the 2022 Asia Cup, now has the hosting rights for 2023.

The sixth team taking part in the tournament will consist of the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Singapore and Hong Kong. The United Arab Emirates and Kuwait made it through to qualifying after finishing first and second at the 2020 ACC Western Region Event, while Singapore and Hong Kong from the Eastern Region did the same.
