Dulyakit Wittayachanyapong, medical director at Thai International Hospital, where Shane Warne was last treated before being pronounced dead, said he believes the Australian legend died before reaching the hospital on Friday.

A statement from the family on Friday said SHane Warne died of a suspected heart attack and doctors tried unsuccessfully to revive him. Warne was taken to Thai International Hospital by ambulance but could not be revived. The Australian’s body was taken to Koh Samui Hospital for an autopsy.

“The patient was intubated. We continued CPR and performed CPR for 45 minutes. The doctor on duty concluded that the patient had died before arriving at the hospital,” said Dulyakit Wittayachanyapong, medical director of Thai International Hospital.

“There were people who were with him and EMTs who were already doing CPR. Our team continued to provide CPR there and during transport to the hospital. We continued CPR and performed CPR for 45 minutes,” he added.

Thai police said Saturday they were not treating his death as suspicious and Warne’s body was being transferred to the mainland for a full autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Thai National Police spokeswoman Kissana Phathanacharoen said Warne’s body was being sent to Surat Thani, about 80 km away, for an autopsy. He did not say when that would happen.

Fox Sports Television quoted a family statement as saying Warne died of a suspected heart attack in Koh Samui, Thailand.

Warne worked as a commentator for Fox Sports. The statement said, “Shane was found unresponsive at his mansion and … could not be revived.”

“After the hospital was contacted by the hotel, we dispatched an emergency medical team to assist the patient at the scene. We got the call around 4:40 p.m. and the team arrived around 5:00 p.m.,” Wittayachanyapong said.
