The Sensex rose nearly 274 points in early trade on Monday, posting significant gains in US markets and buying on index majors Reliance Industries and HDFC.
The 30-part BSE benchmark traded 273.74 points higher at 53,067.36 on early deals. The broader NSE Nifty was up 91.1 points to 15,873.25.
Among Sensex companies, the biggest gainers in early trading were Tata Steel, Titan, Maruti, Bajaj Finance, M&M, Larsen & Toubro, State Bank of India, IndusInd Bank, Reliance Industries and HDFC.
On the other hand, UltraTech Cement, Dr. Reddy’s, Nestle and Hindustan Unilever are among the laggards.
Markets in Asia traded mixed, with Hong Kong, Seoul and Shanghai trading marginally lower while Tokyo traded higher.
The stock exchanges in the USA closed with big profits on Friday.
“A cautious trend may prevail as the street eagerly awaits the WPI inflation numbers due to trickle in on Tuesday,” said Prashanth Tapse, Vice President (Research), Mehta Equities Ltd.
Meanwhile, international oil benchmark Brent crude fell 1.57% to $109.80 a barrel.
In previous trading on Friday, the BSE benchmark fell 136.69 points, or 0.26%, to end at 52,793.62. The NSE Nifty fell 25.85 points, or 0.16%, to settle at 15,782.15.
Overseas institutional investors continued their selling spree, selling ₹3,780.08 crore of shares, according to stock market data on Friday.
