  • India remains without a win in the Tour of New Zealand

Batsman Richa Ghosh notched the fastest ODI in half a century by an Indian woman but couldn’t prevent her team from suffering a crushing 63-run defeat in the rain-limited fourth ODI as New Zealand went 4-0 in that five-game series Channel went into Queenstown on Tuesday.

Remarkably, Ghosh made her fifty on just 26 balls with the help of four 4s and four 6s before breaking out to 52. The fourth ODI was shortened to 20 overs per side after rain played spoilsport.

Chasing 192 for victory, the Indian top order collapsed under the pressure as the visitors staggered at 19 for 4. Richa (52) was the top scorer, for India and skipper Mithali struck at 30 before the visitors all went out for 128 over 17.5 overs. This was India’s fifth defeat on the tour, having lost the lone T20I before losing in all four ODIs.

Previously, Amelia Kerr played a knock of 68 runs from 33 balls with the help of 11 fours and 1 six as New Zealand scored 191/5 against India. Suzie Bates and Sophie Devine also played useful innings from 41 and 32 as the White Ferns posted a score in excess of the 190-run mark. Amy Satterthwaite also contributed with a shot of 32 carries from 16 balls. For India, Renuka Singh returned with two wickets.

Short scores: New Zealand 191/5 (Amelia Kerr 68, Suzie Bates 41; Renuka Singh 2/33) beat India 128 by all means (Richa Ghosh 52, Mithali Raj 30; Hayley Jensen 3/32)
