Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday praised Lakshya Sen for showing courage and class at the 2022 All England Open after the 20-year-old finished second.

Lakshya Sen became only the fifth Indian shutter to reach the final of the world’s oldest badminton tournament. The youngster lost in straight games to the reigning Olympic champion on Sunday in the final.

However, Lakshya had a dream run when he faced off against Anthony Ginting and last year’s champion Lee Zii Jia.

“Proud of you @lakshya_sen! You have shown remarkable determination and tenacity. You put up a spirited fight. Best wishes for your future endeavors,” PM Modi tweeted.

“I am confident that you will continue to reach new heights of success,” said the Prime Minister.

Meanwhile, batsman Sachin Tendulkar sent a strong message, praising the young shuttler’s remarkable performance.

“There are no mistakes in life. You win or you learn. I’m sure you learned so much from this amazing experience @lakshya_sen.

“I wish you the very best for the upcoming tournaments,” said Tendulkar.

After four days of sensational badminton, 20-year-old Sen faltered on the brink of history when he made too many mistakes to go down in the summit match against former champion Axelsen 10:21, 15:21.
