Number 7 is synonymous with some of the greatest sporting superstars. Legendary footballer Cristiano Ronaldo has used and branded the No.7, while the same is the case with India’s former World Cup-winning captain MS Dhoni.

Dhoni has used the 7 as his shirt number since his international debut in 2007 and the legend of the number has grown over the years. Dhoni spoke openly about the reason he chose No.7, ruling out any superstitious aspect.

Speaking to fans during a virtual interaction from India Cements, the parent company of the owners of Indian Premier League club Chennai Super Kings, Dhoni said 7 is a number close to his heart. Dhoni added that over the years he’s heard people talk about the meaning of number 7, but it was for a simple reason that he dialed the number.

“A lot of people initially thought that 7 was a lucky number for me and so on. But I chose the number for a very simple reason. I was born on July 7th. So it’s the 7th day of the 7th month, that was the reason,” MS Dhoni said.

“Rather than go into all the different things of what number is a good number and stuff like that, I thought I’ll use my date of birth as the number.

“Whenever people asked me, I always added something to the answer. 81 was the year, 8-1 is 7 again, 7 is a very neutral number. People actually kept telling me, I started absorbing it and I started saying it to others the same way.

“A lot of people have said 7 is a neutral number, and even if it doesn’t work for you, it doesn’t really speak against you. I added that to my answer as well.

“I’m not very superstitious, but it’s a number I hold dear and have stuck with me over the years,” he added.

MS Dhoni will wear the #7 for CSK in IPL 2022 as the four-time champions look to defend their title. CSK will kick off their season on March 26 at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium against last year’s Kolkata Knight Riders.

Dhoni’s men have been training in Surat for the last week ahead of the 2022 IPL. The CSK skipper said he was very happy with the facilities on offer at Surat, a location he has chosen for the pre-season training camp.
