At a virtual press meeting on Thursday, Ayush Shri Sarbananda Sonowal Minister said the Surya Namaskar demonstration on Makar Sankranti was more relevant in the current Covid-19 resurgence. “It is a proven fact that Surya Namaskar builds vitality and immunity and is therefore able to keep Corona at bay. We have set a target for 75,000 people to enroll in the program, but given the enrollment and our readiness, I’m confident we can surpass the one million mark,” he said.
“The Ministry of Ayush launched this program under the leadership and guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” he said.

In this virtual meeting, Minister of State for Ayush Mahendra Munjapara said that Surya Namaskar rejuvenates mind and body. “Yoga effects on molecular genetics are being studied,” he said.
Minister Ayush Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha said that this program is a part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. “It is Surya Namaskar for vitality,” he said.
All the leading yoga institutes from India and abroad – Indian Yoga Association, National Yoga Sports Federation, Yoga Certification Board, FIT India and many governmental and non-governmental organizations participate in the event. Celebrities and athletes are expected to promote Surya Namaskar through video messages. Players and employees of SAI will also participate in the program.

Participants and yoga enthusiasts can register on the respective portals and are required to upload videos of Surya Namaskar’s performance on January 14. The registration links are available on the respective websites and are widely distributed by the Ayush Ministry.
