Madhabi Puri Buch takes over as Chair of SEBI

Madhabi Puri Buch took over as Chair of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) at a formal handover ceremony in Mumbai on Wednesday. She took over from outgoing Chairman Ajay Tyagi. Ms. Buch worked as a full-time member of SEBI until October 4th, 2021. She was responsible for the Departments of Market Regulation, Regulation and Supervision of Market Intermediaries, Department of Integrated Supervision, Department of Investment Management, Department of Economic and Policy Analysis, and Office of Investor Support & Education, National Institute of Securities Markets and Information Technology Department, SEBI, said in an explanation. She has also worked as a consultant for the New Development Bank in Shanghai and as head of the Singapore office of the private equity firm Greater Pacific Capital. She was a Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of ICICI Securities Limited and an Executive Director on the Board of Directors of ICICI Bank. Ms. Buch has also served as a non-executive director on the board of directors of several companies. She holds an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad and a degree in Mathematics from St. Stephen’s College, New Delhi.
