Wembley will host the revived ‘Finalissima’ match between Italy, winners of UEFA EURO 2020, and Argentina, champions of the CONMEBOL Copa America 2021 on June 1. European football governing body Uefa and its South American counterpart Conmebol agreed last year to stage three editions of the intercontinental game.

Twenty-nine years after its last edition, this legendary football encounter is re-launched as the result of a long-standing partnership between UEFA and CONMEBOL. It was also confirmed in December last year that Brazil and Argentina will compete in the UEFA Nations League after South American governing body CONMEBOL reached an agreement with their European counterparts to take part in the biannual competition.

UEFA vice-president Zbigniew Boniek said CONMEBOL will join the Nations League from 2024. It will be the first time the game has been played since 1993. Italy will return to the stadium where they won the European title against England last year while Argentina lifted the latest South American trophy after beating Brazil in the final in Rio in June 2021.
