Indian shooting ace Saurabh Chaudhary won the gold medal in the men’s 10m air pistol event, opening the country’s account at the first ISSF World Cup of the year in Cairo on Tuesday.

Indian ace shooter Saurabh Chaudhary beat Germany’s Micheal Schwald in the fight for the gold medal in the 10m air pistol event to win India’s first medal at the ISSF World Cup in Cairo.

The bronze medal at this event went to Artem Chernousov of Russia, whose country’s flag was removed due to his involvement in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

19-year-old Saurabh, an Olympian who also bears a youth Olympic gold medal to his name, finished third in the men’s 10-meter air pistol qualifying round with a total of 584 points and made it out as one of the top eight shooters.

He won Season 1 of the final stage with a score of 38 and made it to the medal fight contested by the final four shooters. There he topped again with a score of 42.5.

Esha Singh, Shri Nivetha and Ruchita Vinerkar will represent India in the women’s 10m air pistol event.

Over 500 shooters from 60 nations take part in the Cairo World Cup, which offers 20 sets of medals.
