Royal Challengers Bangalore are preparing to unveil their new captain on March 12 as the former runners-up are expected to make a series of announcements ahead of the new 2022 Indian Premier League season. With the 10-team season starting March 26, RCB is the only franchise yet to appoint their captain.

Virat Kohli gave fans of the popular RCB a glimpse of what’s to come when they make their announcements on Saturday in a video message on Thursday.

“Hi folks, some updates for you guys. As you know, we’re going to start our season pretty soon. [It’s] something I’m really looking forward to. Like I said, new energy. I’m really looking forward to this season. First and foremost, the most important message is that…” Kohli said in the video.

RCB will be making the announcements at an event they have promoted as “RCB Unbox” which will be held in Bengaluru. Kohli, who will be in Bengaluru during the event, cannot attend the event as he will take part in the day-night test against Sri Lanka from February 12.

There is speculation about RCB’s new captain as the likes of Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell are front runners to replace Virat Kohli as captain. While RCB kept Maxwell ahead of the auction, they bought the South African batsman and former Chennai Super Kings opener at the mega auction.

Kohli had resigned as RCB captain after IPL 2021 citing workload management. The former skipper had explained his decision last month and said he was clear about stepping down from the role after leading the side for almost a decade.

“I’m not one to hold onto things any more than I should. Even knowing I can do a lot more, I won’t do it if I don’t enjoy the process,” Kohli said on The RCB Podcast.

“Because it’s very difficult for people to understand your choices unless they’re in your situation. From the outside, people have their own expectations of ‘Oh! How did this happen? We’re so shocked,'” he added.
