Sunrisers Hyderabad bowling coach Dale Steyn, who has landed in India ahead of IPL 2022, is looking forward to getting his coaching journey off to a good start with the Hyderabad-based franchise.

Steyn will join the SRH coaching staff, which includes head coach Tom Moody, hitting coach Brian Lara and spin bowling coach Muttiah Muralitharan. Steyn, who was part of Sunrisers Hyderabad as a player, is now returning as a manager after announcing his retirement last August.

“The Steyn-Gun is here and ready to fire. @DaleSteyn62 #OrangeArmy #ReadyToRise #TATAIPL,” SRH posted on Twitter.

“Yes, I am very happy to be back. I’ve been in India for quite some time so I’m really excited to be back. Just the drive from the airport brought back so many memories,” said Dale Steyn.

“I’ve been here before, be it with the South African or IPL teams, so I’m excited. A new role for me, a coaching role that I’m really looking forward to. It’s a whole new role when I look at the players, which is fantastic. I’m looking forward to hitting the ground running,” added Steyn.

“I made a comment not long ago wearing a jacket and tie and felt like I should be kicking the ground in shorts, t-shirt and cricket shoes. So I’m happy to be back in that kind of role and I’m looking forward to the next few weeks,” continued the SRH bowling coach.

SRH had a disappointing season in the IPL this year as they failed to qualify for the playoffs after losing out in the league stage under captain Kane Williamson, who was retained for the new season along with batsman Abdul Samad and young Kashmiri speedster. Umran Malik ended up in last place.

Sunrisers Hyderabad will start their IPL 2022 campaign on March 29 against the Rajasthan Royals at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.
