IPL 2022 Venues: The Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune will host 15 matches of the league phase of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022.

The Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium is a cricket stadium in the village of Gahunje in Pune, Maharashtra, India. It is the home ground of the Maharashtra Cricket Team and the headquarters of the Maharashtra Cricket Association.

This arena was designed by Michael Hopkins. The groundbreaking ceremony took place on October 21, 2007 at the construction site by BCCI President Sharad Pawar. MCA commissioned M/S Shapoorji Pallonji & Co. Ltd in November 2009 to build the first phase of construction. Construction began on November 14, 2007. MCA Pune was inaugurated by then ICC President and Minister of Agriculture Sharad Pawar on April 1, 2012.

The Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune will be the venue for the remaining 15 matches in the league phase of the 2022 IPL. The decision to organize the tournament in one state was made during the virtual meeting of the BCCI IPL Board of Directors. Members previously considered organizing IPL games at their respective home venues, but following last year when BCCI felt travel allowed for a rupture of the secure biobubble, the board are unwilling to take any further risks.

“We didn’t want to have a situation like last season where we had to abandon IPL midway after ruptured membranes in IPL teams. It’s better to play the tournament in a state where teams can travel by bus,” a BCCI official said.
