The Rajasthan Royals were the champions of the inaugural 2008 season and last month completed a major overhaul of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 Mega Auction.
The winners of the inaugural edition of the IPL in 2008 have been less than impressive in their performance for most of their time in the tournament since. RR has seen many captains from Ajinkya Rahane to Steven Smith to Sanju Samson but they still eluded the trophy.
However, the mega auction has allowed the franchises to start fresh and build a roster from scratch. RR had their plans sorted as they kept Skipper, Sanju Samson (Rs 14 crore), Jos Buttler (Rs 10 crore) and Yashaswi Jaiswal (Rs 4 crore) ahead of the auction.
IPL 2022 Mega Auction
Rajasthan then headed to the IPL 2022 mega auction table. The Royals paid Rs 10 crore on Indian fast bowler Prasidh Krishna and then tied in West Indian batsman Shimron Hetmyer who paid out Rs 8.50 crore for him. In Trent Boult (Rs 8 crore), Devdutt Padikkal (Rs 7.75 crore), Yuzvendra Chahal (Rs 6.50 crore) and R Ashwin (Rs 5 crore) they formed their core.
RR also hired veteran Nathan Coulter-Nile for Rs 2 crore and young Indian cricketer Riyan Parag for Rs 3.80 crore, among the other purchases who spent a total of Rs 61.05 crore to build their squad.
The Royals brought in many players from overseas for their base prizes and it made their squad look more impressive than before. They have a mix of youth and an experienced contingent in the line-up and it’s time to predict the Rajasthan Royals’ starting four players.
