Rajasthan Royals, owned by Royals Sports Group, announced on Friday the appointment of Steffan Jones as the franchise’s high-performance fast bowling coach.

Rajasthan Royals on Friday announced the appointment of Steffan Jones as the franchise’s High-Performance Fast Bowling Coach ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. The 48-year-old former Pacer from Wales had previously served as the team’s fast bowling coach in 2019.

As part of his new role, Jones will be responsible for providing quality training, guidance and support to all bowlers who are part of the Royals year-round roster, with a focus on the off-season and during the build-up – leading up to the IPL season, according to a media release.

Jones will work with the team during their pre-season camp, which will be held at the Royals’ High-Performance Center in Nagpur from March 7-10, a post where he will remain with the roster and help the bowlers prepare for the season ahead to prepare .

“I am delighted to be returning to the Rajasthan Royals and grateful to management for giving me the opportunity to work with the team again. With a wealth of talented bowlers in our ranks, I look forward to working with them throughout the year and preparing them to be at their best next season,” said Jones.

The former Pacer will also provide input to the RR Academies in India and around the world, helping with the technical integration of the facilities.

Current and future Royals players would also have the opportunity to visit and train at Jones, where former Royals players Jaydev Unadkat and Varun Aaron have also had successful off-season development work in the past.

“Steffan has been closely associated with the franchise over the past few years so he understands the culture perfectly and brings a very capable coaching style that has historically been appreciated by both players and management,” said the director of Royals Cricket Kumar Sangakkara said.

“We are delighted to welcome him back to the franchise in his new role where he will work alongside and support our bowlers throughout the year and we are confident his expertise can take us to new heights.”
