The games in Mumbai will be played at Wankhede Stadium, DY Patil Stadium and Brabourne Stadium while MCA Stadium will host the games in Pune. Venues for the league stages have been limited to just 4 to ensure the safety of players, staff and other stakeholders in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. The IPL Governing Body will meet on Thursday 24th February and an official announcement of venues and dates can be expected after the meeting. The playoffs are expected to be played at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Remarkably, BCCI leaders were confident of hosting IPL 2022 in India. The 2020 edition of the popular T20 league was played in the United Arab Emirates but the board brought the 2021 edition back home. Matches were played in Chennai, Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Delhi but the season was paused due to Covid-19 cases in franchise biobubbles. The BCCI resumed the season bringing the second leg back to the UAE.
The 2022 IPL, which will see the addition of two new teams in Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants, will see an increase of 14 games in the league stage. Chennai Super Kings, led by MS Dhoni, will look to defend their title and equal the Mumbai Indians’ record for most successful franchise.
