Matches were played in Chennai, Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Delhi but the season was paused due to Covid-19 cases in franchise biobubbles. The BCCI resumed the season bringing the second leg back to the UAE.

The 2022 IPL, which will see the addition of two new teams in Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants, will see an increase of 14 games in the league stage. Chennai Super Kings, led by MS Dhoni, will look to defend their title and equal the Mumbai Indians’ record for most successful franchise.
