IPL 2022: Mumbai Indians Team Profile

Sport

The 5-time Mumbai Indians will look to get back on their winning streak as they prepare to challenge Chennai Super Kings to win another Indian Premier League (IPL) title this season. MI extended the record for most IPL titles with their fifth triumph of 2020 and will look to do the same in the 2022 IPL. Apart from the 2020 season, MI won the title in 2011, 2013, 2017 and 2019.

Rohit Sharma will lead the team that has sacked key players like the Pandya brothers (Hardik and Krunal) and Trent Boult but has covered its base for the new season. Last year they failed to achieve what they were looking for, winning the IPL for a third straight year and will be eyeing another milestone as they attempt to make it their sixth IPL title this year do.

IPL 2022 Mega Auction

The group of foreign players is among the best in the league with important future investments spread across different categories. The tempo bowling attack is top-notch on paper, with Bumrah being joined by Tymal Mills, Riley Meredith and Daniel Sams. But there is a small problem here, which we will come back to later. Mumbai has backup overseas players for each slot machine, which makes its first choice overseas players very flexible.

The big concern for them is the lack of a fast Indian in the front line to complement Bumrah. They had to settle down on Jaydev Unadkat and Basil Thampi with a few others for company. Though they’ve made up for the lack of solid Indian quicks with their stunning overseas purchases, Mumbai won’t have more options up their sleeves.

Ishan Kishan became the second most expensive Indian player after Yuvraj Singh when the Mumbai Indians bought him back for Rs 15.25 crore on the first day of the auction. Kishan has sold for more than 7 times its base price of Rs 2 crore.

Archer was picked up by Mumbai Indians for Rs 8 crore on the second day of Sunday’s IPL Mega Auction in Bengaluru. Although Archer will not be available for the IPL this season as he continues his recovery from injury. The Mumbai Indians consider Archer one of their legends in the space vacated by Lasith Malinga and remain for the next five to six years and willing to sacrifice a year.
