IPL 2022: Lucknow Super Giants sign Andrew Tye to replace injured Mark Wood

Lucknow Super Giants on Wednesday announced the signing of Australian fast bowler Andrew Tye as a replacement for injured England pacer Mark Wood. LSG have secured the services of Tye at his base price of Rs 1 crore ahead of the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL) season.

Mark Wood suffered an elbow injury in England’s first Test against the West Indies earlier this month. The fast bowler from England triggered a bidding war at the IPL 2022 mega auction. LSG won a bidding war with Indians from Mumbai to sign the Pacer for Rs 7 crore, more than triple its base price of Rs 2 crore.

Andrew Tye may not be a 1-1 replacement for LSG, but the Australian fast bowler, who relies heavily on his variations, is a proven client in the IPL. Tye has represented Australia in 32 T20Is and selected 47 wickets. The right-arm pacesetter has played 27 IPL matches and picked 40 wickets so far.

Tye was the purple cap winner for most wickets of the 2018 season. The fast bowler recorded 24 wickets in 14 games for the Punjab Kings.

LSG will be led by KL Rahul in IPL 2022 after the Indian opener switched from Punjab to captain one of the two new franchises.

Along with Tye, LSG has a top-notch pace bowling attack with Avesh Khan, Dushmantha Chameera and Ankit Rajpoot. Their spin bowling division is headed by Shahbaz Nadeem, Bishnoi, Hooda and Krunal. They also bought the leg spinner Karn Sharma.
