According to a report on ESPNcricinfo, the ECB has sent Wood’s medical update to the KL Rahul-led Lucknow Super Giants. LSG has spent Rs 7.5 crore on Wood at the IPL Mega Auction in Bengaluru. The franchise has yet to agree on a replacement.

Notably, Wood had pulled out of the first Test against West Indies in North Sound competition, citing an elbow problem after throwing 17 overs in the first innings. He was left out of England’s XI for the second Test, with Saqib Mahmood making his Test debut as his replacement.

“He’s been exceptional for us lately. He’s a big part of this team that’s moving forward but there are opportunities for other guys,” Root said before the game.

“Once the final amount was confirmed, Sarah asked what the amount was in pounds. I might have to freeze all of our accounts to keep him from going away,” Wood told The Guardian.

“But we’re happy. It’s a strange experience. It feels like a computer game, almost unreal, like Football Manager transfers, but it’s also very real when you get signed.”

The Lucknow Super Giants are one of two new teams that will be part of the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL). Owned by the RP Sanjiv Goenka group, the Super Giants will be led by KL Rahul, who made the switch from Punjab Kings ahead of the IPL 2022 Mega Auction.
