HIGHLIGHTS

  • Hardik Pandya has passed the yo-yo test and will lead the Gujarat Titans in IPL 2022
  • Delhi Capitals opener Prithvi Shaw failed the yo-yo test
  • Both cricketers were present at the National Cricket Academy (NCA).

Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya bowled and easily passed the ‘Yo-Yo’ test at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru during a general examination. Pandya will now lead the Gujarat Titans in the upcoming 2022 IPL.

The BCCI screens all of their centrally signed players – injured or otherwise – ahead of the IPL and Pandya’s performance during his two days with the NCA can also bode well for Indian cricket.

“Let’s be clear. The release of the fitness test is only for those coming back from injury. In Hardik’s case, it was about getting an overall fitness assessment for the grueling IPL season,” a BCCI source told the Words quoted news agency PTI.

“He is an asset and needs to review his current fitness standards,” he added.

In fact, the NCA team didn’t even ask him to bowl in their fitness rating module, but the all-rounder apparently “insisted” to show he’s on track to make a comeback for the Indian team.

Prithvi Shaw fails: The former U-19 world champion captain, who is not part of the central contract, has also been to the NCA to give an update on his fitness status and the result has not been exactly satisfactory.

The current men’s yo-yo qualifying score is 16.5 and the Delhi Capitals opener has been revealed to have scored under 15 points. Shaw hasn’t been one of the fittest Indian players of late, and perhaps that’s one of the reasons he hasn’t featured in any of the current A-Teams across formats recently.

“These are just fitness updates. Obviously it’s not stopping Prithvi from playing for Delhi Capitals in IPL. It’s just a fitness parameter and not the be-all and end-all,” the source said.
