The Chennai Super Kings are one of the most popular teams in the Indian Premier League and the reception they received in Surat is a testament to that. Fans lined the streets to catch a glimpse of the stars of MS Dhoni and CSK as the defending champions began training in the western Indian state of Gujarat.

In a video shared by Chennai Super Kings, MS Dhoni can be seen entering the stadium for her training session in Surat amid fanfare. The team bus, trademark yellow, was surrounded by fans as they drove from the team hotel to the stadium. One fan was even spotted on the street wearing the Chennai Super Kings jersey.

“Those eyes that smile with love give us joy wherever we go!” CSK wrote while sharing the video of fans cheering for the team in Surat.

The Chennai Super Kings are among the first teams to begin training for the 10-team IPL season. The likes of captain MS Dhoni, Ambati Rayudu and KM Asif have trained in Surat, while bowling coach L Balaji has also been spotted at the venue during practice in photos shared by the franchise.

U-19 World Cup star Rajvardhan Hangargekar, bought for Rs 2 crore, has also joined the camp in Surat.

It remains to be seen if CSK will enlist Deepak Chahar’s services as the pacemaker suffered a serious hamstring injury during last month’s T20I series against Sri Lanka. CSK paid Rs 14.25 crore to secure Chahar’s services in the IPl 2022 Mega Auction.

CSK will open its campaign against Kolkata Knight Riders at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, which will also be the opening game of the 10-team IPL 2022.

Remarkably, CSK chose Surat as their training venue as the solid three used are very similar to those in Mumbai where the four-time champions will play most of their games.

Dhoni’s men will try to defend the IPL title. The former India captain guided Chennai to their 4th title in 2021 after they recovered from a horror 2020 season in the UAE.
