Captain Rishabh Pant joined the Delhi Capitals squad alongside all-rounder Axar Patel in Mumbai ahead of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season which begins on March 26. Shardul Thakur, KS Bharat, Kuldeep Yadav and Prithvi Shaw were the other DC players who joined their roster on Wednesday.

“Pant, Axar Patel, KS Bharat, Prithvi Shaw, Shardul Thakur and Kuldeep Yadav gathered at the team hotel in Mumbai,” the franchise said in a media statement on Wednesday.

It said batsman Prithvi Shaw, all-rounder Shardul Thakur and left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav “will undergo a mandatory three-day quarantine before leaving their rooms.”

Pant, Axar and Bharat underwent a direct bladder to bladder transfer. They were earlier in the Indian team bubble for the just-concluded Test series against Sri Lanka. Earlier Tuesday, the Capitals named former Australia all-rounder Shane Watson as assistant coach for the league’s upcoming season.

The 40-year-old joins the DC coaching staff, which consists of Ricky Ponting (head coach), Pravin Amre (assistant coach), Ajit Agarkar (assistant coach) and James Hopes (bowling coach).

“The IPL, the best T20 tournament in the world. I have incredible memories as a player, most notably with the Rajasthan Royals win in 2008 led by the incredible man Shane Warne, RCB and then CSK,” Watson said in a DC statement.

“I have incredible memories as a player and now coaching opportunities. It has come to be able to work under the amazing Ricky Ponting. He was an amazing leader as captain and now able to coach under him.

“He is now one of the best coaches in the world. So I’m really happy to be able to learn the basics under Ricky,” he added.

The Delhi Capitals take on the Mumbai Indians in their first game of the IPL season on March 27.
