IPL 2022: Delhi Capitals on Wednesday announced the appointment of former Indian pacesetter Ajit Agarkar as the team’s new assistant coach.

Former Indian pacesetter Ajit Agarkar is set to join Delhi Capitals as an assistant coach ahead of the upcoming 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL).

Agarkar will join the franchise after completing his commentary duties in the home series against Sri Lanka from February 24th. The IPL is expected to start in the last week of March.

“I am delighted to be part of the Delhi Capitals squad this season,” said Agarkar of the development.

“I’ve been fortunate to be a player and come back in a different capacity. It’s obviously very exciting. We have a young and great squad, led by one of the most talented players in the world – Rishabh Pant. And the coach, Ricky Ponting is a legend of the game. I look forward to working with them, can’t wait to get started and create some special memories.”

The 44-year-old with 288 ODI and 58 Test wickets has represented the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Delhi Daredevils in the IPL. He joins the Delhi Capitals coaching staff of Ricky Ponting (head coach), Pravin Amre (assistant coach) and James Hopes.

The 44-year-old played 26 Tests, 191 ODIs and four T20Is for India, winning a total of 349 wickets. The Delhi Capitals will be targeting their first title this season after reaching the play-offs in the last three seasons.
