Kashmiri girl Sadia Tariq won gold at the Moscow Wushu Stars Championship in the Russian capital, bringing laurels from the first event to India.

India’s Sadia Tariq, with a brilliant performance, won the gold medal at the Moscow Wushu Stars Championship, which will be held in the Russian capital from February 22-28.
Sadia Tariq, who hails from Srinagar, is a two-time gold medalist at the Junior National Wushu Championship. Sadia won the gold medal at the Wushu Championship in Moscow by defeating a local favorite at the event, which is the sanctioned event in the Sports Authority of India’s annual calendar training and competition.
The Junior and Senior India Team takes part in the championship. Sadia hails from Srinagar and recently secured a gold medal at the 20th Junior National Wushu Championship at Lovely Professional University, Jalandhar where Team Jammu and Kashmir Wushu placed 3rd overall in the medal table. She had recently bagged gold medals at the 19th and 20th Junior National Championships, held in Haryana and Jalandhar, respectively.
It was her mother’s and her own dream to present on an international platform and she fulfilled her dream by bagging a gold medal on the international platform. The National Chief Coach of India Mr. Kuldeep Handoo encouraged and supported her and helped her to fulfill her dream. Credit goes to her coaches who also inspired and worked hard to help her reach new heights.
Earlier in the day, former Sports Minister and Athens Olympics medalist Rajyavardhan Rathore took to social media to praise Sadia’s gold win.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also took to social media to wish the young wushu champion.

Sadia is the daughter of Peppystores’s cameraman from Srinagar, Tariq Lone. A beaming father, Lone, who is in New Delhi, said it was not just her medal but his as well.
