India-Sri Lanka, 2nd T20I: India’s skipper Rohit Sharma became the T20I captain with the most home wins of all time on Saturday. Rohit surpassed the likes of Kane Williamson and Eoin Morgan to achieve the feat in Dharamshala.

Skipper Rohit Sharma set a new record on Friday when he became the most successful T20I captain at home venues after India held an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-game series in Dharamshala in the second T20I against Sri Lanka .

Rohit has now led India to 16 wins from 17 home games in the T20I, putting him ahead of England captain Eoin Morgan and New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson. Among the Indian captains, Rohit has three more wins at home than Virat Kohli and five more than MS Dhoni.

India presented itself with a breathtaking chase gunned down a 184 run target in just 17.1 overs. They rode Shreyas Iyer’s second straight fifty and a blistering 19-ball 47 not out from Ravindra Jadeja and a 26-ball 39 from Sanju Samson to end the chase after leaking profusely with the ball.

The win also secured India an unbeatable 2-0 lead in the 3-match series against Sri Lanka, extending their winning streak in T20I home games.

Overall, Rohit has recorded 23 wins in 25 games as a T20I captain in his career. This victory not only guarantees the 11th consecutive victory for India under his leadership, but also the third consecutive win since he became full-time captain of the format in November 2021.

The Indian team has been on the road to success since their shock group elimination at the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. The Rohit Sharma-led side haven’t lost a single game since losing to New Zealand at the 2021 T20 World Cup in the shortest format of the game.

India has claimed three consecutive T20I series victories after the T20 World Championship, both at home, under their new leader Rohit Sharma. Since taking over as T20I captain, Rohit has led India to a 3-0 win over New Zealand and a 3-0 win over the West Indies.

Notably, Rohit was chasing a record when he passed New Zealand openers Martin Guptill and Virat Kohli to become the top run scorer at Twenty20 Internationals in Thursday’s first T20I against Sri Lanka. Also, Team India under his leadership had ranked first in the T20I rankings after defeating West Indies 3-0.
