Ravindra Jadeja joined an elite list of players to hit a 5-wicket haul and score 150+ in a Test match as the Indian all-rounder secured the rare double against Sri Lanka in the ongoing 1st Test of a 2-match series scored in Mohali.

Jadeja, who sacked Sri Lankan captain Dimuth Karunaratne on Day 2 of the series opener, ran through the Sri Lankan lower middle class in Sunday’s first session. Jadeja took out Niroshan Dickwella for 2 and then Suranga Lakmal in the same over for 0. He then got the wicket of tail-enders Vishwa Fernando and Lahiru Kumara in back-to-back deliveries as India bowled Sri Lanka for 174 in the first innings and sealed a tremendous 400 run lead.

Jadeja has elite company as the all-rounder is only the 6th player after Vinoo Mankad, Denis Atkinson, Polly Umrigar, Gary Sobers and Mushtaq Mohammad to hit a 5-wicket haul and score over 150 in a test.

Jadeja shone with the bat on Day 2 of Test 1, hitting an unbeaten 175 to help India post a mammoth first innings with a total of 574/8. Remarkably, it was his highest Test score and he had an opportunity to hit his first double hundred, but he revealed on Saturday that he had asked team management for a statement to put pressure on the Sri Lankan racquets in Saturday’s final session exercise.

Jadeja also broke Kapil Dev’s record for the highest score by an Indian batsman at No. 7 in Test cricket on Saturday as he had hit 3 sixes and 17 boundaries.
