Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja continued his stellar run with the racquet as he broke Kapil Dev’s record during his 175-run unbeaten knock against Sri Lanka on day two of the first Test of the 2-match series in Mohali on Saturday.

Notably, Jadeja went unbeaten with a career-best 175 as India closed their first inning with 574 for eight against Sri Lanka. Jadeja crossed Kapil Dev who had scored 163 points against Sri Lanka in Kanpur in 1986 while batting in 7th place.

Notably, Jadeja is one of the only three batsmen in the country to have a score of 150 or more while batting at 7 or less in Tests. Before Jadeja, Kapil and Rishabh Pant had reached the landmark. Jadeja also became the first player to be involved in more than three hundred partnerships in an inning while batting 7th or below.

Jadeja’s unbeaten run of 175 was a fitting tribute to Shane Warne, who died on Friday as the Australian legend dubbed the Indian star ‘Rockstar’ in 2008. The morning session belonged to Jadeja as he hit three digits just before lunch. Celebrating the milestone in his inimitable sword fighting style, he delighted the small crowd that had gathered at IS Bindra Stadium.
