IND vs. SL: Ruturaj Gaikwad misses match 1 due to right wrist pain, Deepak Hooda makes T20I debut

Young opener Ruturaj Gaikwad is not playing the first T20I after complaining of pain in his right wrist, while the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja and Sanju Samson have returned as Indian team Deepak Hooda made a T20I debut in the first game the 3-T20I series against Sri Lanka on Thursday in Lucknow.

Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka won the draw and chose to face the Indian team in the first T20I. Shanaka said they’ve been bowling well and feeling confident in the last few games. The SL captain added that Australia is a tough tour and they could have won more games there. He shared that Sri Lanka made some changes from the last game.

On the other hand, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma said he was looking for a hunt. Rohit added that he wasn’t sure about the pitch but the last time they played here the pitch was good. The Indian skipper went on to mention that nothing is changing for them, adding that it’s important they want to stay on the radar and keep ticking the boxes. Rohit also shared that they made six changes compared to the last game and that Ruturaj Gaikwad wanted to play but injured his wrist before the game.

“Ruturaj Gaikwad complained of pain in his right wrist which interferes with his punches. He was not available for selection for the first T20I. BCCI Medical Team is examining him,” BCCI tweeted.
