Australia captain Meg Lanning said Ellyse Perry has been ruled out of Australia’s 2022 ODI World Cup semi-final against West Indies, scheduled for Wednesday in Wellington.

Perry, who missed the semi-finals and final of the 2020 T20 World Cup with a hamstring injury, suffered back spasms in Australia’s win over South Africa earlier last week and has suspended training until Monday’s training session.

“She hit the nets a bit yesterday and was feeling good but unfortunately she just wasn’t able to get to the required level tomorrow,” Lanning told reporters.

“She hit the nets a bit yesterday and was feeling good but unfortunately she just wasn’t able to get to the required level tomorrow,” Lanning told reporters.

“Unfortunate for them and the team, obviously a big blow but we feel we have good depth to be able to cover it and that’s what we need to do tomorrow.”

Annabel Sutherland, daughter of former Cricket Australia chief executive James, is likely to keep her place in the team after replacing Perry in last Friday’s win against Bangladesh.

Unbeaten Australia, seeking their seventh World Cup triumph, meets the West Indies at Wellington’s Basin Reserve on Wednesday, while defending champions England meet South Africa in the other semi-final in Christchurch on Thursday.
