Havells, a fast-moving electronics company, intends to remain focused on high-quality, feature-rich and decorative fans as it expects consumer acceptance of such products to continue to improve.

“We are not [present] in the economy segment,” said Ravindra Singh Negi, President-Electrical Consumer Durables, Havells India, noting how rising demands are driving customers to look elsewhere when purchasing fans.

He said the Havells fan’s price range is around £1,700 upwards. The emphasis on differentiated products, which include fans with high-performance motors, dust resistance, improved design, sensor and air purifier activation, and operation via remote control or mobile app, has helped steer away from the crowded economy fan segment, served by the organized and unorganized Player.

Unveiling the energy-efficient Ecoactiv fans, consisting of 19 ceiling, pedestal, wall and fan models, recently in Hyderabad, Mr Negi told the media that the value of the fan market in India is estimated at 8,000 crore, with the five largest are players between them account for more than 80% share. Overall, Havells ranks second with a 20% fan share. In the decorative fan segment, it has a 45% market share, he said, adding that the company does not share details of the volume and value of sales.

When asked, he said the company has a wide sales and service network across the country and there is good customer demand from Tier II and Tier III cities.

The company said in a press release that the Ecoactiv fan range is designed to operate with low energy consumption and help consumers reduce electricity bills. Havells has a fully integrated factory in Haridwar, Uttarakhand manufacturing all categories of fans including ceiling, table, wall, exhaust and pedestal fans under one roof. The capacity of the facility is more than 10 million fans annually, it said.
