PV Sindhu suffered a surprise defeat in the 2nd round of the German Open Super 300 tournament, a week before the all-important All England Championships.
Seventh-seeded PV Sindhu lost to low-ranking Chinese Shuttle player Zhang Yi Man 14-21 21-15 14-21 in women’s singles, which spanned nearly an hour.
The Indian didn’t find momentum as Zhang broke away at 5-5 to take an 11-5 lead with six straight points. She stayed ahead to bag the opening game with little fuss.
Impressed by the turnaround, Sindhu made a comeback in game two as she held a narrow 11-10 lead at the break and then slowly marched forward to get back in the fray.
But the Chinese found her way in the deciding set as she pulled away after a first duel to secure an 11-8 lead at the break. After that she didn’t give the Indian much chance and soon closed the doors to her favorite opponent.
